Lightening Strikes, Maybe Once, Maybe Twice…

Music For The Soul

There are two songs that I absolutely have not been able to turn off as of late:

Alicia Keys is one of my all-time favorite singers, period. Girlfriend knows I have quite a crush on her as well (We all have that handful of celebrities, right?), BUT the real reason that I love this song so much is that it inspires me. It’s not your typical angry rock-out break-up song nor is it a slow, tear-jerking ballad about love lost. She does a perfect job of relaying the sadness felt at her relationship’s end, but it is also empowering – While she is allowing herself to be vulnerable and sad, she is also determined to “make it without you”, but not in an in-your-face, middle-finger-to-the-world way either. It’s actually quite an uplifting break-up song, which is apparently possible. And besides, who doesn’t love her piano solos interspersed throughout her songs? Cannot wait until she goes on tour again, which is a good thing because I’ll probably be waiting a while since she just had a baby.

I couldn’t find an official video for this song, so I just posted this link. I’ve never cared one way or the other for Fantasia before, mainly because I’d never really heard any of her music and just kind of knew her as one of the former American Idol winners. This song is gorgeous and it hugs your soul – It energizes me and I feel GOOD after I listen to it. The words are simple and ring true, a testament to anybody that struggles with day-to-day life at times. Supposedly, this song has been out for a while and I find it unfortunate that it never found the radio airplay that it deserves – When I first heard it, I felt as though I’d discovered some sort of hidden music gem. Hopefully by sharing it with the world, it can be someone else’s hidden music gem now as well.

No real point to this blog, just sharing a couple of fantastic songs that I haven’t been able to take off of repeat yet.
